Example sentences for: mediates

How can you use “mediates” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • Components of the SCF system are widely conserved in eukaryotes [ 1 3 ] . In human cells, for example, SCF Skp2mediates destruction of the CDK inhibitor p27 [ 13 14 ] , while SCF β-TRCPtargets IκB [ 15 16 17 ] . All of these SCF complexes share homologues of the core components CDC53/CUL1, SKP1, and HRT1/RBX1/ROC1, which associate with different F-box proteins.

  • In cultured human muscle cells, only the PI 3-kinase - p70 S6 kinase pathway, and not the MAPK pathway, mediates insulin up-regulation of p85α PI 3-kinase gene expression [ 26 ] . Similarly, in L6 myotubes, insulin induces hexokinase II gene transcription via the rapamycin-sensitive PI 3-kinase pathway, but not via the MAPK pathway [ 27 ] . The PI 3-kinase - p70 S6 kinase pathway, but not the MAPK pathway, mediates insulin induction of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase gene expression in primary rat hepatocytes [ 28 ] . In H411E liver cells, insulin down-regulates cAMP-induced phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase gene transcription via the PI 3-kinase pathway, but not via the MAPK pathway [ 29 ] . Phosphorylated p70 S6 kinase has been shown to be present in the nucleus in insulin-treated cells [ 30 ] . Moreover, it has been shown that p70 S6 kinase phosphorylates and activates members of the cAMP response element modulator family of transcription factors [ 31 ] . These data raise the possibility that transcriptional regulation of SP-A gene expression occurs via the PI 3-kinase - p70 S6 kinase pathway.

  • Although Cdc5 activity (1) is necessary to free nucleolar Cdc14 in late mitosis, (2) can elicit ectopic release of Cdc14 in pre-anaphase cells when overproduced, (3) regulates the phosphorylation state of Net1 during anaphase, and (4) can disassemble native and recombinant RENT complexes in vitro by phosphorylating Net1, a combination of in vivo and in vitro phosphosite mapping and mutagenesis experiments suggest that Cdc5 mediates exit from mitosis primarily by phosphorylating targets other than Net1.

  • For example, sensitivity to the antibacterial lipopeptide polymyxin B is affected by the PmrA-PmrB regulon, which mediates substitution of 4-aminoarabinose on the 4´ phosphate of lipid A [ 52 53 ] . By reducing the negative charge of lipid A, this modification decreases its electrostatic interaction with cationic peptides.

  • Thus, the present study identifies a new CD36-dependent molecular signaling pathway that mediates tubular epithelial apoptosis, and may underlie TED and IF, hallmarks of disease progression, specifically in human diabetic nephropathy.
