Example sentences for: dimerization

How can you use “dimerization” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • This includes the characteristic features peculiar to the kinase domain of GCN2 proteins, the m1, m2, and m3 motifs of the HisRS domain, and a cluster of positively charged residues at the C-terminus that are thought to function in ribosome binding and dimerization [ 31 37 41 ] . Within the kinase domain, the Dictyostelium proteins possess an inserted sequence between the 4th and 5th kinase subdomains that is also found in this position in all known GCN2-like proteins.

  • p38 and p35-C/EBPβ both contain an N-terminal transactivation domain and a C-terminal DNA binding/dimerization domain.

  • It associates specifically with unduplicated centrosomes, and its phosphorylation by CDK-2/cyclin E, the trigger for centrosome duplication, is required for duplication to occur [ 17 ] . The nucleophosmin gene is also known for its fusion with the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) receptor tyrosine kinase in cases of this disease with (2;5)(p23;q35) translocations [ 18 ] . The nucleophosmin portion contributes to transformation by providing a dimerization domain, which allows activation of the fused kinase and signal transduction [ 19 ] .

  • The dimerization observed in the above examples all involve ligand-binding sites.

  • In an earlier investigation on the role of the p51 subunit of HIV-1 RT, we demonstrated that decrease in size of its β7-β8 loop impairs the catalytic function of the heterodimer [ 15 ] . In the present studies, we demonstrate that maintaining the wild type size of this loop in the p51 subunit is critical for dimerization of the enzyme and its catalytic activity.
