Example sentences for: centrosome
How can you use “centrosome” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:
At least one AKAP, AKAP 450 is a large coiled-coil protein attaching PKA to the centrosome [ 19 ] .
Proteasome activity is required for germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) in starfish and toad oocytes [ 44 45 ] and for activating Xenopus oocytes [ 45 46 ] . Also, proteasomes are needed for regulating centrosome segregation [ 38 47 ] , kinetochore structure [ 39 ] , and sister chromatid cohesion and separation [ 48 ] . When rat oocytes were exposed to the proteasome inhibitor MG132, proteasomes translocated to the meiotic spindle, MPF activity was sustained, and oocytes were arrested in MI with partially segregated chromosomes [ 42 ] .
Some of these activities include nucleic acid binding [ 11 ] , ribonuclease activity (for processing preribosomal RNA) [ 12 ] and association with maturing preribosomal ribonucleoprotein particles [ 13 14 ] . It may also be involved in the transport of ribosomal or other nucleosomal proteins across the nuclear membrane, as it is known to shuttle between the cytoplasm and nucleus and to stimulate the nuclear importation of proteins [ 15 16 ] . Nucleophosmin also appears to be intimately involved in centrosome duplication.
For example, a slimb allele shows defects in centrosome duplication control [ 34 ] , and slimb null cells undergo apoptosis [ 35 ] . Both effects could be explained by a failure to inactivate E2F, as E2F promotes centrosome duplication in mammalian cells [ 36 ] and E2F can induce apoptosis [ 12 ] [ 13 ] . A link between Slimb function and the RB/E2F pathway of cell proliferation control is also suggested by the genetic interaction between the C. elegans slimb ortholog lin-23 and the RBF ortholog lin-35 in which lin-35 function limits the severity of the loss of lin-23 [ 37 ] . Since RBF is an important modifier of E2F activity, perhaps this interaction is a reflection of the action of both Lin-23 and Lin-35 on E2F.
It associates specifically with unduplicated centrosomes, and its phosphorylation by CDK-2/cyclin E, the trigger for centrosome duplication, is required for duplication to occur [ 17 ] . The nucleophosmin gene is also known for its fusion with the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) receptor tyrosine kinase in cases of this disease with (2;5)(p23;q35) translocations [ 18 ] . The nucleophosmin portion contributes to transformation by providing a dimerization domain, which allows activation of the fused kinase and signal transduction [ 19 ] .
