Both PGE-2 and IL10 have been shown to suppress antigen presentation, to suppress cytotoxic T cell (CTL) responses, and to inhibit cytokine production by T cells and antigen presenting cells, perhaps most importantly IL12, that plays a central role in initiation and potentiation of cellular immune responses [ 2 3 4 5 6 7 ] , [ 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 ] . We asked whether PGE-2 levels and/or IL10 levels were elevated in plasma of NSCLC patients, whether monocytes from NSCLC patients produce more IL10 than normals, and whether there was correlation within our findings.

  • These factors include abnormalities in humoral and cell-mediated immunity, phagocytic cell dysfunction, and skin and mucous membrane defects [ 3 ] . The presence of neutropenia [ 4 5 ] use of central venous catheters [ 4 6 ] , low CD4 +lymphocyte count, and intravenous drug use [ 6 ] are cited as risk factors for bacteremic infections in patients with HIV infection.

  • Other factors that may contribute include functional defects in antigen-specific cell-mediated immunity [35,37,40,41,42], and progressive immune escape [43,44,45].

  • The differential binding of peptides to diverse MHC molecules during cell-mediated immune response has been fairly established using MHC-peptide structural data obtained by X-ray crystallography.
