One type of membrane-localization tag is the myristoyl group, which is attached to the glycine residue of proteins, such as S. cerevisiae Gpa1 (the α subunit of the pheromone-responsive G protein) [ 18 ] , that contain at their N-termini the sequence MGXXXS/T (where "X" can be any amino acid) [ 19 ] . Thus, we investigated whether fusion to the sequence MGCTVS, which is present at the N-terminus of Gpa1 and which we will henceforth refer to as "Myr", could restore function to the mutant versions of Boi1 that are impaired in the ability to bind phospholipid.
Gene-disruption studies in Rhodobacter capsulatus indicate that loss of the PRC-H subunit results in disruption of the reaction center and the light-harvesting complex-1 and loss of photosynthetic growth [ 26, 27].
These strains included: C4813, genomovar IIIa, B. cepacia epidemic strain marker (BCESM) positive, cable pilin subunit gene A (cable A) negative; C4878, genomovar IIIa, BCESM positive, cable A negative; and C6159, genomovar IIIb, BCESM and cable A negative.
The single A. thaliana subunit A gene was shown by whole RNA blot analysis to be transcribed in all organs of the plant tested.
The possibility that domoic acid may activate neonatal microglia both in vitro and in vivo is suggested by recent observations with kainic acid, a domoic acid and glutamate analog that can induce upregulation of neonatal microglia scavenger receptor mRNA [ 22 ] and tissue plasminogen activator release [ 23 ] . The putative molecular explanation for these observations has been that kainic acid activates the ionotropic AMPA glutamate GluR4 subunit which has recently been shown to be expressed by activated microglia following transient forebrain ischemia in vivo [ 24 ] . Because this subunit of the AMPA glutamate receptor has affinity for domoic acid [ 25 26 27 ] , we hypothesized that domoic acid might activate neonatal microglia in vitro and lead to concomitant mediator release [ 21 ] .
