Example sentences for: cysteines

How can you use “cysteines” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • As a comparison, a non-palmitoylated mutant of α q , in which cysteines 9 and 10 have been substituted with serines, is found predominantly in the soluble fraction (Figure 2E, lanes 7 and 8), as described previously [ 13 ] . Surprisingly, in comparison to α i2 , sα i2 was always detected in fewer cells, by immunofluorescence analysis, and showed lower levels of protein expression, by western blot analysis of subcellular fractions (Figure 2E) or whole cell lysates (not shown).

  • The lack of all essential cysteines in both copies of the CXXC motifs suggest that these MoeZs probably do not function like MSAE proteins.

  • OR sequences contain one highly conserved cysteine in EC1 and three in EC2, an unusual feature shared by only a few G-protein-coupled receptors, such as chemokine or P2Y1 receptors, which have an additional pair of disulfide-forming cysteines in the amino terminus and EC3 [ 50, 51].

  • This dual CXXC motif, found in MoeB, ThiF, and HesA proteins, forms a metal center with a zinc atom [ 7 9 ] . The presence of all four of these cysteines has been shown to be required for activity in MoeB).

  • The hyperthermophilic topoisomerase I from Thermotoga maritima has been shown to coordinate one Zn(II) with a unique tetracysteine motif Cys-X-Cys-X 16 -Cys-X-Cys but Zn(II) binding is not required for relaxation activity [ 33 ] . The sequence of this unique tetracysteine motifs is somewhat different from those present in other type IA topoisomerases in that the other tetracysteine motifs always had at least two amino acids separating the pairs of cysteines (Cys-X 2-11 -Cys), instead of just one amino acid (Cys-X-Cys) in T. maritima topoisomerase I [ 33 ] . Therefore the structure and function of the single Zn(II) binding motif in T. maritima may differ from the multiple Zn(II) binding motifs in E. coli topoisomerase I. Direct interaction between DNA and the T. maritima Zn(II) binding motif has not been demonstrated.
