Example sentences for: synaptic

How can you use “synaptic” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • CKII is a calmodulin target in the brain, involved in synaptic plasticity.

  • Sensory neurons react to peripheral nerve injury by increasing their excitability, changing their constitutive synaptic transmitter profile and even their synaptic contacts in the spinal cord.

  • Several of these changes are maladaptive in the sense that they contribute to the generation of the abnormal sensations that constitute neuropathic pain, by producing ectopic spontaneous activity into the CNS, altering synaptic drive, increasing excitability and diminishing inhibitory action in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, and by making novel synaptic contacts with inappropriate neurons [ 1 4 ] . A number of the injury-regulated genes we describe here may contribute directly to this altered sensory processing; CB1 receptor, VGF, the phospholemman ion channel, SNAP25 A, endothelin-1 and the ligand-gated 5-HT3 receptor (Table 4, see additional file 3).

  • The γ frequency oscillations (30-100 Hz) are characteristic of responses to sensory input measured by cortical EEG [ 9 ] . In the hippocampal slice preparation, γ oscillations can be evoked by brief, high frequency tetanic stimuli to region CA1 [ 10 11 12 13 ] . The extracellular field potential response during these oscillations takes the form of a train of population spikes in stratum pyramidal at γ and β (15-30 Hz) frequencies [ 14 ] . Intracellular recordings during γ oscillations induced by tetanic stimulation reveal a slow membrane depolarization in conjunction with GABA A receptor-mediated inhibitory postsynaptic potentials [ 11 15 ] . This synaptic inhibition-based γ activity entrains action potential generation in pyramidal neurons, leading to the population spikes at γ band frequencies.

  • NMDA, N-methyl-D-aspartate; AMPA, α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid; GluR, glutamate receptor; SPM, crude synaptic membrane; CaMKII, calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II; SDS PAGE, sodium dodecyl sulfate electrophoresis.
