Example sentences for: leukemias

How can you use “leukemias” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • The proto-oncogene TEL (Translocation, Ets, Leukemia) is a transcriptional repressor that contains a C-terminal Ets family DNA binding domain; a central domain that together with co-repressors recruit histone deacetylases [ 1 2 3 ] ; and an N-terminal SAM (sterile, alpha, motif) domain [ 4 5 6 ] , which we have recently shown forms a polymer [ 7 ] . Chromosomal translocations in a variety of leukemias result in fusion of the SAM domain of TEL to tyrosine kinase domains such as ABL, PDGFβ and JAK2 [ 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 ] or to the transcriptional activators AML1 and ARNT [ 15 16 17 ] . In the tyrosine kinase fusions, SAM domain polymerization leads to constitutive activation of the tyrosine kinase domains, which leads in turn to cell transformation [ 10 12 18 19 ] . Thus, compounds that block TEL-SAM polymerization could be effective in treating these leukemias.

  • The MYND domain is located between the two halves of the SET domain and similar domains have been identified in a number of proteins that function as transcriptional repressors, including the ETO protein that is fused to the AML-1 transcription factor in the t(8;21) translocation in acute myeloid leukemias [ 39 ] . The MYND contains two zinc finger motifs and is a protein-protein interaction interface responsible for the recruitment of corepressors [ 39 40 41 ] .

  • SAM domain oligomerization is the key event that triggers a variety of leukemias [ 21 ] and is therefore an attractive target for therapeutic intervention.

  • The NCI60 set includes cell lines derived from cancers of colorectal (CO, seven cell lines), renal (RE, eight cell lines), breast (BR, eight cell lines), ovarian (OV, six cell lines), prostate (PR, two cell lines), lung (LC, nine cell lines) and central nervous system (CNS, six cell lines) origin, as well as leukemias (LE, six cell lines) and melanomas (ME, eight cell lines).

  • Acute leukemias can broadly be divided into two classes, acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), that originate, respectively, from cells of myeloid or lymphoid origin.
