Example sentences for: detecting

How can you use “detecting” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • The chances of detecting a spike in toxicity would depend on the frequency of sampling and the probability of missing a spike is high.

  • The PC12 line of rat pheochromocytoma cells [ 6 ] has proved to be a particularly favorable system for detecting NGF-responsive changes in gene expression [ 7 8 9 10 11 ] . These cells resemble sympathico-pheochromo-blasts and upon exposure to NGF cease proliferation and acquire, in a transcription dependent mechanism, many of the properties of post-mitotic sympathetic neurons including neurite outgrowth and electrical excitability.

  • The standard and binary USM implementations were, therefore, limited to detecting similar segments up to lengths 53 and 63 respectively in a single comparison (not using the recursive distance algorithm).

  • Moreover, direct estimates of the allele-specific effects of heterozygosity (relative to the corresponding homozygotes), nearly absent in the infectious disease-HLA literature, are frequently found in studies of HLA genotype and chronic (mostly autoimmune) diseases [ 28 29 30 ] . We do not know the reason for this difference in approach, but suspect that some infectious disease investigators, informed by the evolutionary hypothesis of overdominance for infectious disease resistance and by animal studies, may have a special interest in detecting effects of heterozygosity per se . Many studies of HLA-autoimmune disease associations, on the other hand, seem to focus more on the effects of individual alleles and, having established these, move on to investigate the dependence of these effects on genetic modifiers, including the identity of the individual's other allele at the same locus.

  • DNA microarray technologies are designed to reveal gene expression profiles by simultaneously detecting the expression levels on a genomic scale [ 1 2 ] . They are now used to profile gene expression in a variety of model systems, such as antioxidant response [ 3 ] and tumor staging [ 4 ] . However, the hybridization based approach suffers from limitations including, low sensitivity for genes with small changes of expression level, limited accuracy with potential for high experimental error [ 5 ] and necessity for a large amount of biological starting material.
