The results of this study suggest that IL-2 administration induces inflammation at the tumor site, with three predominant secondary effects: activation of antigen-presenting monocytes; a massive production of chemoattractants that may recruit other immune cells to the tumor site, among which are the chemokines MIG and PARC specific for T cells; and the activation of lytic mechanisms ascribable to monocytes (calgranulin, grancalcin) and NK cells (for example, NKG5, NK4) (Figure 8).
