Linear regression showed that breast cancer rates increased 37% in Marin County between 1990 and 1999, but increased only 3% in the rest of the SFBA and other urban counties in California.
Using population estimates obtained from the California Department of Finance [ 9 ] , we calculated incidence and mortality rates for the individual years 1990-1999 as well as for the 5-year period 1995-1999 for three geographic areas: Marin County, the rest of the SFBA (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties), and other urban counties in California.
