For example, chronic treatment with fluoxetine decreases the release of AVP from rat hypothalamic organ cultures [ 36 ] . In the present experiments, AVP-induced grooming and flank marking behaviors were tested in hamsters exposed to chronic treatment with psychotropic drugs shown in preclinical and clinical studies to be effective in the treatment of OCD [ 20 28 ] . The results show differential responsiveness to these treatments.
This pattern of responsiveness to drug treatment suggests that AVP-induced flank marking may be used as a model for screening psychotropics used in the treatment of OCD.
