The inbred Dahl/Rapp rat is a genetic model of salt-sensitive hypertension [ 3 4 ] . These studies demonstrated increased numbers of TUNEL-positive cells, increased cytoplasmic nucleosome content and caspase-3 activation in kidneys of hypertensive S rats, compared to normotensive Sprague-Dawley control rats on the same high-salt diet.
