Example sentences for: microsatellite

How can you use “microsatellite” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • Microsatellites as DNA markers are advantageous over many other markers as they are highly polymorphic, highly abundant, co-dominant inheritance, analytical simple and readily transferable [ 1 ] . Microsatellites are reported to be more variable than RFLPs or RAPDs, and have been widely utilized in plant genomic studies [ 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ] . The advantages of microsatellite over other types of genetic markers will become more important, and more obvious, when they are used to track desirable traits in large-scale breeding programs and as anchor points for map-based gene cloning strategies [ 10 ] .

  • M6P/IGF2R loss of heterozygosity occurs frequently in human breast, liver and lung cancer [ 6 20 21 22 ] , and the remaining allele of 30 to 50% of these tumors contains an intragenic loss-of-function point mutation in the ligand binding domains [ 35 ] . The M6P/IGF2R is also commonly mutated in gastrointestinal and endometrial malignancies because its coding sequence contains a poly-G region that is a mutational target in tumors with mismatch repair deficiencies and microsatellite instability [ 23 24 ] . Functional studies show that the introduction of an exogenous wild-type M6P/IGF2R into human colorectal cancer cells with a single inactivated allele significantly decreases growth rate and enhances apoptosis [ 26 ] . Conversely, loss of M6P/IGF2R expression promotes cancer cell growth by increasing intracellular signaling from both the insulin-like growth factor I receptor and the insulin receptors [ 36 ] .

  • A low frequency (3/96) of microsatellite instability was also detected at marker D18S59.

  • Gene mapping studies using microsatellite markers have identified chromosome 13q32 as one of the putative loci for Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder [ 10 11 12 13 15 ] . To begin identification of a susceptibility gene for Bipolar disorder, we have screened two candidate genes, SLC15A1 and GPC5, on the basis of their genetic localization within the 10 cM region of chromosome 13q32 [ 14 ] . The entire SLC15A1 gene was represented in one BAC clone sequence AL357553 and GPC5 in 6 BAC clone sequences.

  • Of the 82 primary tumors studied for promoter methylation, 48 tumors were also examined for microsatellite instability (MSI) using 49 di- or tetra-nucleotide markers [ 14 15 16 17 ] . We found 9 of 48 (18.
