How can you use “dedications” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • There are some interesting older dedications, like Machiavelli's 32-line toadying exordium to Lorenzo the Magnificent in The Prince . (In Italian it probably ran longer.)

  • But not all of the oldies are goodies: Edmund Spenser's dedications of his (nine) books vary from one-liners to some very sleepy sycophancies many times that length.

  • But such acknowledgments do not qualify as dedications in the sense generally understood and in the book at hand in particular.

  • The reviewer quotes five dedications (misquoting one) and merely says they seem to him “neither funny nor clever.”
