Defects in the APC tumour suppressor gene are thought to play a role in greater than 70% of all colorectal cancers and is responsible for inherited syndromes of polyposis (FAP and Gardner's) [ 24 25 ] . Furthermore, in humans the majority of colorectal cancers arise from adenomatous polyps [ 26 ] .
