If a reversible component occurred rather quickly after stopping drugs, then one might expect a stable, lower prevalence in studies performed well after drugs were stopped, with no relationship between prevalence of valve dysfunction and time off medication.
The fact that so many studies have observed statistically significant differences in prevalence after relatively short exposure to drug suggest that underlying incidence rates of new valvulopathy must be extraordinarily high compared to the expected low unexposed rate.
