How can you use “pro-inflammatory” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:
Two highly conserved responses are observed under conditions of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress; the ER overload and unfolded protein responses [ 24 25 ] . The unfolded protein response is characterized by generalized suppression of protein synthesis and the specific induction of ER-resident proteins and GADD153 [ 24 ] . The transcription factor nuclear factor kB is activated during the ER overload response, leading to the downstream induction of pro-inflammatory proteins [ 25 ] . Therefore, the transcriptional modulation of GADD153 and IkB by mefloquine suggests that the ER might be a target of the drug.
A strong candidate is TNF itself, as it encodes the potent pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF, and there is a significant body of clinical and experimental data suggesting a causal role for it in the pathogenesis of many of the diseases with which it has been associated.
It has been postulated on clinical grounds that the anti-cancer effects of IL-2 are mediated through in vivo expansion and activation of cytotoxic lymphocytes [ 1] and/or promotion of their migration within target tissues [ 3], but it has become apparent that IL-2 at the doses used therapeutically has broader immune/pro-inflammatory effects [ 4, 5].
Monocyte/macrophage infiltration has a key role in the pathogenesis of chronic arthritis [ 8 ] . The release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and enzymes by the synovial lining macrophages is important for the onset, propagation, and flare of arthritic inflammation [ 9 ] . The finding that the number of synovial tissue macrophages is correlated with joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis is evidence of their importance [ 9 10 ] . Monocytes and macrophages are believed to have a similar role in other chronic inflammatory joint diseases, such as gout [ 11 ] and psoriatic arthropathy [ 12 ] . Therefore in this study we assessed the effects of mactinin on monocyte chemotaxis in vitro . We have also tested synovial fluid from patients with various types of arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, gout, and ankylosing spondylitis, for the presence of the monocyte/macrophage maturation-promoting fragment, mactinin.
The results, therefore, suggest that IL-2 exerts its primary role at tumor sites through the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
