Primary diagnoses for hospitalized poisonings are shown in Table 1. Suicide was not listed as an eventual primary cause of death among patients hospitalized for poisonings, nor was attempted suicide (E956, "Suicide and self-inflicted injuries by cutting and piercing instrument," or E958.
