Example sentences for: peroxidation

How can you use “peroxidation” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • The results of cell culture and animal studies have shown that omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) selectively killed cancer cells in vitro [ 1 ] . Furthermore, n-3 PUFAs incorporated into animal diets have reduced tumor growth rates in vivo [ 2 3 4 ] . The prevailing hypothesis for the reduction in tumor cell growth, in vitro or in vivo , by supplementing the diet with high levels of n-3 PUFAs has been that the incorporation of n-3 PUFAs into cell membranes of the tumor cells increased the susceptibility of the cells for lipid peroxidation and that the products of lipid peroxidation subsequently accumulated to cytostatic or cytotoxic levels [ 2 5 6 7 ] . It has also been reported that supplementing the diet of cancer xenograft bearing mice with n-3 PUFAs could increase the efficacy of edelfosine [ 8 ] , doxorubicin [ 9 ] , mitomycin [ 10 ] , cyclophosphomide and 5-fluorouracil [ 11 ] or irinotecan [ 12 ] against the tumor.

  • The most abundant of these substances is MDA, an aldehydic lipid peroxidation product formed by the action of ROIs on lipid membranes.

  • It was concluded that increased levels of lipid peroxidation products were not the sole cause of tumor growth inhibition by DOX.

  • Specifically, products of lipid peroxidation are elevated in patients with hepatic hypoxia/reperfusion, obstructive liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, Wilson's disease, Alagille syndrome, sepsis, and inflammatory liver diseases [ 11, 12, 13, 14, 15].

  • Malondialdehyde and other products of lipid peroxidation can be estimated spectrophotometrically at 535 nm after reaction with thiobarbituric acid to obtain an index for lipid peroxidation [ 23 ] . The absorbance values obtained were compared against a standard curve of known concentrations of malondialdehyde and normalized to the protein content of the specimen.
