How can you use “nudes” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • The images we see or hear described in the movie are vaguely countercultural (a Santa-with-an-erection cartoon), not sick ( Hustler 's real-life jokes about Betty Ford's mastectomy); they are soft-core (centerfold-style nudes), not hard-core (the pictorial of a woman gagged and bound on the top of a car).

  • Critics declare Bonnard's landscapes, nudes, and self-portraits more than dated Impressionism, deeming them "[s]ome of the most extraordinary paintings of his quickly ending century" (Christopher Benfey, Slate ). They say that his dreamlike images show a "Proustian" concern with the mechanics of perception and that his later nudes are "tinged with necrophilia" (Francine Prose, the Wall Street Journal ).   • None of Close's in-your-face '60s shockers--the desecrated flags, the oversize nudes, the rock stars' genitalia--is included in the MoMA show (though Big Nude is reproduced in the exhibition catalog); nor, for that matter, are some large-scale photographic nudes he made during the mid-1980s.
