Example sentences for: non-protein

How can you use “non-protein” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • Since our libraries contain totally random peptides ranging from 20 and up to 40 amino acids in length, there are no known restrictions on the amino acids that can be selected to create the surrogate's 'complementary' surface [ 7 ] . Thus, the examples described in this report relate to the utility of the surrogate approach for finding the cognate receptor for both protein and non-protein targets.

  • This technology has also been successfully used for known protein targets, such as the insulin receptor [ 3 ] and TNF-β [ 38 ] as well as non-protein targets such as disease-specific RNAs [ 38 ] . We have also shown that the HSPL libraries identify hotspots on novel genes of unknown function and identify functional interaction pathways (manuscript in preparation).

  • Overall, the data indicates that the surrogate peptides, derived in this manner, can contain sequence information regarding the natural contact domains for both protein:protein and protein:non-protein interactions.

  • CD1a is expressed in differentiated antigen-presenting cells and monocytes and is used as a marker for the presence of these cells in the skin [ 24 25 26 ] . The CD1 molecules are the products of five CD1 genes located on chromosome 1. The genes are closely related to the mixed histocompatibilty complex (MHC) genes indicating origin from a common precursor [ 27 ] . CD1 molecules, however, have limited sequence homology to MHC class I and II molecules, and unlike the MHC molecules are also capable of binding non-protein antigens [ 28 29 ] .

  • Other methods that have been used extensively for high throughput partner identification include the yeast two-hybrid system [ 25 ] . While the two hybrid approach is popular, it has a number of inherent problems including a high potential for false positives, the inability to use non-protein targets such as mRNA or membrane bound/extracellular proteins and the inability to address postranslational modifications on a target.
