  • The gastric mucosal responses to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also involve the activation of NF-κB, generation of cytotoxic cytokines like TNFα and epithelial apoptosis [ 6 7 ] . Administration of low concentrations of nitric oxide by an ester linkage reduces this effect, suggesting that nitric oxide was offering benefit by quenching other radicals involved in cell activation.

  • In humans, it is unfeasible to evaluate the immunological events that occur shortly after infection in the mucosal compartments.
