Furthermore, large offspring syndrome frequently observed in cloned animals is associated with epigenetic changes in gene regulation and decreased M6P/IGF2R expression [ 19 ] . Thus, the M6P/IGF2R plays a crucial role in regulating mammalian fetal growth and development.

  • In many organisms, mannose has been shown to be a substrate for hexokinases whereas 3- O -methylglucose is metabolized poorly, if at all, by hexokinases [ 62 65 ] . By this logic, the fact that seed storage lipid breakdown is repressed by the presence of mannose but not by 3- O -methylglucose could also be interpreted to mean that inhibition of seed storage lipid breakdown occurs via a hexokinase-mediated pathway.
