How can you use “leydig” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:
Ethanol exposure has been shown to inhibit the reduction of androstenedione to testosterone in rat Leydig cells in vitro [ 32].
The mouse anti-rat LHR monoclonal antibody (mAb), clone 3B5, was developed against purified rat LHR [ 21 ] . The antibody showed immunoreactivity with rat granulosa cells of mature (preovulatory) follicles, ovarian thecal and interstitial cells, granulosa-lutein cells of developing, mature and regressing CL, and with testicular Leydig cells, and no reactivity with rat kidneys [ 22 ] . During the last ten years, affinity purified 3B5 antibody has been used in several immunohistochemical studies [ 23 24 25 26 ] . To our knowledge, however, no analysis of the 3B5 antibody by western blot has been reported.
In situ hybridization and immunolocalization of ERα and ERβ in a variety of reproductive tract tissues in males and females have shown that in most instances either ERα or ERβ is expressed in a particular cell type, although some cell types, e.g., Leydig cells, ovarian surface epithelium, and epithelial and stromal cells of the uterus and breast, may show expression of both ERs [ 39 40 41 ] . However, since only a proportion of cells were detected to express ERα or ERβ in a single color immunohistochemistry [ 42 ] , such an approach cannot demonstrate coexpression of the ERs in a particular cell, nor indicate eventual transition from one ER subtype to another during differentiation.
The observed effects of Cl -channel antagonists differ significantly between the present study where DIDS prevented 4-AP from decreasing progesterone synthesis and previous investigations where DIDS and other Cl -channel antagonists prevented LH from enhancing progesterone production [ 29 35 56 ] . However, this discrepancy is expected, because DIDS antagonizes a chloride influx pathway in pig GC, and chloride efflux pathways in Leydig cells.
Chloride channels or chloride ions are known to influence cAMP-stimulated steroidogenesis by adrenal cells [ 29 ] , human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-stimulated steroidogenesis by amphibian follicle-enclosed oocytes [ 56 ] , as well as LH-stimulated steroidogenesis in rat Leydig cells [ 29 ] , MA-10 cells [ 59 ] , and chicken GC [ 35 ] . In mammalian cells, removal of extracellular chloride stimulates basal and protein kinase A (PKA)-dependent steroid hormone production by increasing the expression of StAR and potentiating the effects of submaximal concentrations of cAMP [ 29 59 ] . The proposed mechanism of action involves chloride efflux, depolarization of the mitochondrial and plasma membranes, and alterations to protein synthesis and cholesterol transport [ 29 59 ] .
