  • Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness that involves loss of retinal ganglion cells and degeneration of the optic nerve [ 1 ] . Glaucoma is usually associated with high intraocular pressure (IOP) that results from an increased resistance to drainage of the ocular fluid [ 1 ] . Developmental disorders of the ocular anterior segment, including Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome, are often associated with elevated IOP and glaucoma [ 1 2 ] . Myocilin has been shown to be upregulated in glucocorticoid-treated human trabecular meshwork (TM) cells [ 10 11 ] , and there is variable evidence for increased MYOC expression in glaucomatous individuals [ 12 13 14 ] . In addition, glaucoma patients have a higher chance of responding to steroids than non-glaucomatous individuals.

  • We are particularly interested in documenting differences in glaucoma phenotypes between strains of mice that share the same causative genes.

  • The IPD phenotype in D2 mice is similar to human pigment dispersion syndrome, a condition that often leads to pigmentary glaucoma [ 12, 13], and involves degeneration of the iris pigment epithelium [ 12, 14].
