Even though cryptosporidiosis is a reportable disease, limited data are available on the routes of endemic transmission and on accurate incidence rates of cryptosporidiosis, especially in the immunocompetent population.
Therefore, even if biological and epidemiologic mechanisms were identical in two populations, but allele frequencies differed in those two populations, it would be perfectly reasonable to find population heterozygote advantage in one but not the other.
