How can you use “connective” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • From these 5 mice, livers were dissected according to standard protocols (Porsolt & Partners Pharmacology, Boulogne-Billancourt, France), which consisted of carefully dissecting out the liver, rinsing with 70% EtOH to remove adhering blood, trimming of adhering connective tissue with scissors, cutting into 100-150 mg subsections, freezing in liquid N 2 , and storing at -80°C until gene expression and lipid analysis.

  • CES1 is expressed in mature monocytes and macrophages, and is involved in the degradation of xenobiotics [ 15 ] . MMP2 or MMP15, or both, are connective tissue degrading enzymes [ 16 ] . A hypothetical role for MMP2 and MMP15 in the Blau syndrome is that aberrant expression of MMP2 and MMP15 could inappropriately degrade connective tissue, which, in turn, could release stored cytokines and inflammatory mediators, such as tumor necrosis factor α and interleukins and potentially expose neo-epitopes.

  • The first evidence that chemokines are associated with wound healing in vivo was reported in 1990 using the chemokine cCAF (chicken Chemotactic and Angiogenic Factor; the product of the 9E3 gene), a CXC chemokine that is now known to be the ortologue for human IL-8 [ 9 ] . cCAF is expressed to high levels very shortly after wounding and during the first 24-48 hours after injury, and remains elevated for at least 16 days after wounding [ 6 10 ] . It is primarily expressed by the fibroblasts of the granulation tissue, especially where interstitial collagen (Coll) is abundant, but the levels are also high in the endothelial cells of the microvessels, in the healing epidermis and in the connective tissue beneath the skin [ 6 11 ] . In the chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, low concentration of cCAF results in chemotaxis of monocyte/macrophages and lymphocytes and the formation of a granulation-like tissue beneath the chemokine-containing pellet [ 3 ] . After four days of exposure to this chemokine, the ectoderm of the CAMs becomes thickened and the amount of fibrillar collagen in the tissue is markedly increased, strongly suggesting that cCAF is able to initiate some of the primary events that lead to granulation tissue formation [ 3 ] .

  • The tumors were harvested under sterile conditions and trimmed of adipose and connective tissue.

  • Fibulin-1 is a calcium-binding extracellular matrix glycoprotein that is associated with various connective tissues, basement membranes and blood [ 37 38 39 ] . Splicing of the C terminal domain of fibulin-1 can lead to the expression of different variants of fibulin-1 (A-D) [ 37 ] . The amino acid sequence of the human fibulin-1C protein encodes five domains: a signal sequence (35 amino acid residues), three anaphylatoxin type I repeats (108 residues), an adjoining sequence (33 amino acid residues), nine calcium-binding type II EGF-like modules (387 amino acid residues), and a carboxyl domain (116 amino acid residues) [ 37 ] . The amino acid sequence derived from the nucleotide sequence obtained for monkey fibulin-1C (GenBank accession number AF395659) shows it to share 97.
