How can you use “bronchoalveolar” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:
We have shown that α-actinin is abundant in the bone marrow stroma matrix, presumably at focal adhesion sites [ 5 ] . We have also reported that a 31 kDa amino-terminal α-actinin fragment, which we have named mactinin, is generated by the degradation of extracellular α-actinin by monocyte-secreted urokinase [ 6 ] . Furthermore, we have demonstrated that mactinin is present in inflammation caused by Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, by examining bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from mice with infection [ 6 ] . It was not present in mice not challenged with P. carinii , suggesting that inflammaton is necessary for mactinin formation.
Further studies of the immunologic characteristics of bronchoalveolar lavage cells from HTLV-I or -II infected humans are needed, especially in persons with a history of recurrent pneumonia or acute bronchitis but without myelopathy or uveitis.
Similarly, we have reported that bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from uninfected mice contains no mactinin, in contrast to fluid from mice infected with P. carinii [ 6 ] .
In the present study, we characterized the effects of acute endotoxemia on the response of a unique population of neutrophils, which we have previously demonstrated are tightly adhered to the lung vasculature [ 9 ] . Because of their location within the tissue, these cells are likely to be more relevant than circulating neutrophils, or neutrophils recovered by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), to the pathophysiology of endotoxin induced lung injury.
Most previous reports of HTLV-I bronchio-alveolitis reported more frequent and severe pathological and biological abnormalities of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in patients with HTLV myelopathy or uveitis compared to HTLV-I carriers without apparent disease [ 6 8 14 ] . Since our patients were without overt inflammatory disease, we cannot comment on potential pulmonary function abnormalities in patients with clinical inflammation.
