Example sentences for: alpha-proteobacteria

How can you use “alpha-proteobacteria” in a sentence? Here are some example sentences to help you improve your vocabulary:

  • MI00109.cl shows homology to a group of hypothetical proteins from alpha-proteobacteria: Sinorhizobium meliloti NP_386252 (3e-44); Novosphingobium aromaticivorans ZP_00095448 (3e-38); Mesorhizobium loti NP_107072 (5e-37).

  • For this purpose, we used five closely related genomes in the enterobacteria group: E. coli O157:H7 EDL933 [ 11 ] , E. coli O157:H7 Sakaï [ 29 ] , E. coli K12 [ 30 ] , Salmonella enterica [ 31 ] , and S. typhimurium LT2 [ 10 ] ; three closely related genomes in the alpha-proteobacteria group: Helicobacter pylori J99 [ 32 ] , H. pylori 26695 [ 33 ] , and Campylobacter jejunii [ 34 ] ; and three closely related genomes in the Streptococcus genus: S. pneumoniae R6 [ 35 ] , S. pneumoniae TIGR4 [ 36 ] , and S. pyogenes [ 12 ] . We considered as unambiguous the relationships between these bacteria because, for example, the orthologous genes of the two strains of E. coli O157:H7 are almost identical at the nucleotide level, while they show noticeable differences from E. coli K12 (data not shown).

  • Of the 1,923 COGs (clusters of orthologous groups) [ 32, 33, 34] identified in P. aeruginosa (a gamma-proteobacterium), 80% are also found in the combined group containing Mesorhizobium loti and Caulobacter crescentus (both alpha-proteobacteria).

  • The gamma-proteobacteria represented in group 1 are reasonably closely related to the alpha-proteobacteria in group 3, and the crown eukaryotes in group 2 are reasonably closely related to the plants in group 3. Orthologous relationships between these groups can often be identified.

  • Lateral gene transfer from alpha-proteobacteria to plants is particularly intriguing because transfer and retention of a foreign gene in a sophisticated multicellular organism is more difficult than in bacteria.
